I'll Be Seeing You
Peggy Lee & Frank Sinatra
In January 2004, the Kawartha Jazz Ensemble was
chosen to back up singers Wayne Robinson and
Connie Burton in a tribute to the music and lives of
Frank Sinatra and Peggy Lee. With three shows 95%
sold-out (1800+ tickets), the show was a major
success. That was just the beginning of our
Lee/Sinatra Show success.
Review (January 2004, Showplace Peterborough)
"The Kawartha Jazz Ensemble provided a great sound for the songs. As a group, the vibe they put
out was nothing short of spectacular ... Special note must be made of performances by Tim
Mulligan on drums and Paul Novotny on bass ... By the end of the show, and Burton's performance
of the Lee hit Fever, these two musicians were awesome ... Wayne Robinson and Connie Burton
were both very convincing in their roles. The band was very hot sounding ... The staging ... was
fun and inventive, though never getting in the way of the songs."
Jeff Macklin, Peterborough Examiner

Ellington Show
In December 1996, the Kawartha Jazz Ensemble
released its first CD entitled "Duke'n It Out!" which
features 13 songs from Duke Ellington's collection.
The group was fortunate to have long-time Ellington
associate Ron Collier as musical arranger/conductor for
this project. "Duke'n It Out!" has had terrific radio
and public acceptance including special recognition
from Duke Ellington societies worldwide. "Duke'n It
Out!" continues to get a significant amount of air-time
on CBC Radio, CJRT and CKPT 1420.
"Duke'n It Out!" Reviews
"I am quite impressed with the quality of arrangements and the quality of musicianship
in picking the notes off paper and translating them into beautiful music."

... The music is extremely well played."
Richard Ehrenzeller, TDES Inc., Duke Ellington Society, New York, NY
"One of the best CD's I've heard including out of Toronto. This group ranks up
with the top bands in Toronto or any Big Band for that matter."

"If you add this CD to your Ellingtonia collection, you can enjoy many times
a full hour of splendid recordings, both technically and musically."
